Blogger by a small company in San Francisco called Pyra Labs expired in August 1999. Comments and was in the midst of the dotcom boom. Purpose We did not exactly throw VC funding parties, football, playing in the lobby at home, free beer lawsuit. (Unless --other was free beer).
We were three friends, funded by doing projects on the Internet annoying contract for large companies, in an attempt to make our own grand entrance to the Internet landscape. Originally what we were trying to trying to do does not matter much now. Goal while doing it, we created Blogger, more or less we fancy, and thought - Hmmm ... that's interesting.
Blogger took off, in a small way, and finally means the largest, over a few years. We raised a little money (but stayed small). Then the statue happened, and we ran out of money, and got a fun trip for our little less fun. We are alive, and not just in one piece, and placed the purpose of going all the time service (most days) and started building it again.
Things were going well again in 2002. We had hundreds of thousands of users, though still just a few people. And then something no one expected happened: Google wanted to buy us. Yes, that Google.
We liked Google a lot. I have admired the blog. So we thought. And it worked well.
We are now a small (but slightly bigger than before) team in Google focusing on helping people their voice on the Internet, and organize the world's information from a personal point of view.
